AIMS & OBJECTIVES 2009/2010.
  • More diversity in our events, activities and projects. This will start out with planned Movie
Nights, Restaurant Nights, BBQ's and Day Trips organised by our branches in Canterbury-
Bankstown, Epping/ Northside and the Penrith District, with the full assistance from the
    Come Out Australia Committee.
  • More geographical diversity for our functions. The regions we represent have many
suburbs and wards, we believe in being in as many of these suburbs as possible.
  • The establishment of more branches across Sydney at first, but also beyond our city's
boundaries, into rural areas and interstate over time.
  • The establishment of a Writing, Drama and possibly Film project. At this stage to be based
in Belmore, with an aim to write, produce, perform and show an original piece across
    suburban Sydney and beyond.
  • To pursue more relations with other GLBTIQ organisations across Sydney and beyond with
a view to hosting joint events or projects and assisting each other in whatever ways
    possible.
  • To become actively involved in as many of the 15 Local Government Areas our branches
represent as is possible, by attending Community Planning Workshops and becoming a part
of local inter agency forums, and various festivals (Granny Smith in Eastwood, Padstow on
Parade, Riverwood Community Festival, St Marys Spring Festival, Blacktown City Festival,
Moocooboolah Festival at Hunters Hill, Haldon Street Festival in Lakemba and more) to
promote the awareness and visibility of our community as being a part of the local areas.
  • To give Branch members and other interested parties the opportunity to have more input
into their local branch or the overall organisation by hosting at least 2 idea days or mini-
    conferences a year.
  • Apply for Deductible Gift Recipient status from the Australian Tax Office. Whilst not the
most exciting of our aims, it is certainly quite important from an administration viewpoint.
  • To apply for funding or sponsorship for special projects or events in suburban Sydney.
  • A long term view to acquiring a space of our own for office, storage and meeting
    requirements.

DIVERSITY STATEMENT
Here at Come Out Australia, diversity means more to us than just equal opportunity or tolerating
others. It means:
  • Respecting and valuing differences – emotional, intellectual, physical and experiential
  • Recognising and appreciating the variety of characteristics that make individuals unique in
an atmosphere that promotes and celebrates individual and collective achievement
  • Providing an inclusive environment where the insights of different groups are sought and
welcomed – where people are not alienated or sidelined because they don’t fit into a set
    expectation
The following statement is an affirmation of Come Out Australia’s commitment to diversity in our
workplace and in our communities of service:
  • Respecting individuals and valuing diversity
  • Come Out Australia sees the diversity of individuals and of our communities as a strength.
  • We believe we have a responsibility to demonstrate leadership on diversity issues within
    our communities and more broadly.
  • We respect and value the diverse life experiences of our members, communities and
    volunteers.
  • By having a diverse committee, membership and volunteers we are better able to achieve
our mission and able to provide better services to diverse communities.
  • Only by acknowledging and developing the skills and commitment of all our people will
Come Out Australia be in the best position to meet our future challenges.
  • Creating and maintaining a diverse culture is about recognising individual difference,
contribution and need — not managing everyone the same.

At Come Out Australia, it is everybody’s responsibility to ensure that respecting individuals and
valuing diversity is part of every program and every activity.
