| Penrith, about 60 kilometres from the Sydney metropolitan area on the western fringe, covers an area of some 420 square kilometres on the Nepean River flats of the Cumberland Plain. The Blue Mountains rise at the western border of the region. The population of Penrith has experienced a massive growth rate of well over 15% in recent times, some estimates place it as high as 25%. Penrith has a young population, with 18-22 and 25-29 year olds being amongst the highest percentages. This of course means a huge growth in the Gay & Lesbian (GLBTIQ) population as well, which is why a branch of Come Out is very much needed. Penrith has had a number of gay and lesbian venues over the years, from the Midnight Factory in the early 90’s to nights at some a number of the venues in the area, including the Penrith Panthers leagues club. Come Out Australia is proud to have a branch in Penrith. We believe that having a gay and lesbian social and support group in Penrith is important to the longevity of a visible and viable GLBT community in the region. The branch is open to all residents of the Penrith and surrounding areas, as well as anyone visiting or willing to travel out our way. |
| The Penrith branch began on Sunday 29th June, 2008. It is the Western Sydney arm of Come Out Australia. As we begin the journey to establishing a sizeable community, that is diverse; with various ages; Westies; beliefs; ideals; backgrounds; scene and non-scene goers and/or just wanting meet up with people of similar interests to make new friends.... feel free to come to our events or meetings.
