The Sutherland Shire, affectionately referred to by locals as "The Shire", is located in the South of Sydney
and with a population of 215,000 is one of the largest and most progressive Local Government Areas in
Sydney. It has had a strong gay history with the Cronulla Gay Group operating since circa 1975 and a
number of other queer groups, events and projects which have been held in the Southern Beaches region.
We have a variety of activities, like dining at localcafes, restaurants and the like, picnics at members
homes and the many wonderful waterfront parklands in "The Shire", bushwalks, sports and more. We
are also planning to hire a punt for a party on either Port Hacking or Gunnamatta Bay or around Como.
